Let's backtrack to some definitions:
Lifestyle: the method by which a person lives
Independence: freedom from control or influence of another or others
Therefore, lifestyle independence means the "freedom to choose the method by which you live your life without control or influence from others". In short, it means living your life the way you want. You could also say that lifestyle independence means being able to live your dream.
Being able to do what you want, when you want may sound like an impossibility. How can a normal person hope to achieve such a thing without also being independently wealthy?
That, dear reader, is the purpose of this blog.
I had a dream. I also had job. You know, a regular, Monday through Friday, 8 to 5 kind of gig. I was pretty much the definition of a middle-class, middle-income bachelor. I made enough to survive in expensive Boulder, Colorado, and had enough left over to pursue a PORTION of my dream as a recreational hobby, but not to take it too seriously. There was also the being stuck to a desk for 8 hours per day part.
Now, two years later, I'm living my dream. Well, half my dream. The other half involves living overseas. But for now, I'm living the first half, which is part of the path towards the second half. It's complicated. But I'm here, and doing it. And you know what? I started living it while still having that job, by transitioning that job into a more independent position over time and, eventually, turning my employer into a client.
The purpose of this blog will be to explore the path towards lifestyle independence, and how you can accomplish this for yourself.
Until my next post,
Jassen Bowman
